Called the “Gateway to the Bronx River,” Soundview Park is 205 acres situated where the Bronx River opens into the East River. Once a vast expanse of salt marsh habitat and tidal creeks, this important coastal wetland ecosystem has been altered and destroyed due to landfill/development activities. New York City Parks, in partnership with the US Army Corps of Engineers, has recently begun the construction phase of a 3-acre salt marsh restoration project. The restored tidal marsh system will eventually attract wildlife to the area including wading birds fish, crustaceans and mollusks.
