Fisheries and aquaculture research and extension work is core to NYSG’s mission and vision. Whether exploring the impacts of climate change on forage fish, understanding shellfish disease and its impact on clam populations, improving hatchery production methods for oysters, oyster dispersal and recruitment success, learning about the movement of King Salmon in Lake Ontario, or Atlantic salmon restoration, NYSG funds and extends fisheries and aquaculture research of relevance to our coastal stakeholders. New York’s fisheries, aquaculture, and seafood industries are vast and diverse, often operating in silos with minimal communication among the various players.
