Program Oversight

New York Sea Grant (NYSG) operates as a cooperative program of the State University of New York (SUNY) and Cornell University, with administrative leadership at both Stony Brook University and Cornell University in Ithaca.

NYSG’s work is guided by two advisory bodies that help ensure the program remains responsive, effective, and aligned with its strategic goals.

Board of Governors

The Board of Governors provides strategic oversight, sets policy, approves the program’s strategic plan and budget, and ensures accountability to our federal and state partners. Board members are appointed by SUNY and Cornell and represent university leadership and key state agencies. The Chair and Vice-Chair rotate between the two institutions every two years.

Program Advisory Council

The Program Advisory Council (PAC) consists of representatives from local governments, agencies, academic institutions, and other organizations who bring a range of perspectives to NYSG’s work. The PAC helps review proposed research for relevance, provides input into strategic planning, and offers guidance on community priorities.

Both the PAC and the Board play an important role in ensuring that NYSG’s research, education, and outreach efforts are informed, balanced, and well-connected to public needs.
