Special care must be taken when removing the stripper to make sure the residue with the dissolved paint is collected and disposed of properly as a hazardous waste.  This machine pressure washes the hull and collects the wash water in a one step process, depositing it in a drum for disposal.  The machine costs approximately $5,000 (including the pressure washer).  Chemical strippers are relatively expensive, (materials run about $1 per square foot of hull) but they may reduce labor costs.  They do require some experience to use properly and safely.
