East Harlem, NY, October 2, 2019 - In tonight's Fox 5 New York minute .... it was a perfect day to do some fishing. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in East Harlem this morning to unveil the brand-new El Barrio bait station along the East River.

The kiosks will provide a place to cut bait off fish that are caught.

It also provides educational information about the various types of fish in the waterway.

"There are people still using this beautiful stretch of waterfront, particularly the fishermen and I challenge anyone to come by anytime night or day and not find a fisherman here," said Friends of the East River Esplanade's board chair Jennifer Ratner.

The new bait station is the latest effort by the city to bring innovative design to a waterfront.

he station was funded by the group Friends of the East River Esplanade through a $15,000 grant from New York Sea Grant.
