Chronic, small fueling spills can also be minimized by taking extra precautions to catch any gas splashing from the vent.  There are a number of inexpensive devices like the container on the left in this slide or absorbent pad (on the right) that are designed to be attached to the outside of the boat over the vent.  Fuel coming from the vent is caught in the plastic jug or soaked up by the pad before it can reach the water.  Because of differences in the design and location of fuel vents, these devices will not necessarily work on all boats.
