If work is done outdoors, it should be done over a hard surface or tarp so the waste material can be collected for proper disposal.  Scrapings and chips from some paints may have to be disposed of as hazardous materials depending on their content.  Contact your state environmental agency or local municipal officials for assistance in identifying the proper procedures for disposing of this material in your area.
