Hull maintenance activities are a particular concern because they can produce large volumes of solid wastes like paint chips which contain copper and zinc.  Since these metals are toxic to marine life even in very low concentrations, solid waste from hull maintenance activities can pose problems if it is not handled and disposed of properly.  There are a variety of hull maintenance BMPs which can help minimize this potential source of pollution.
