Recreational boating facilities can generate a good deal of solid waste in their day-to-day operations.  The type of waste ranges from garbage to potentially toxic materials like paint chips and batteries.  Under the Federal Nonpoint Source Pollution Management Program, marinas are required to manage these wastes to ensure they do not pollute coastal waters.
