Catch basins can also be used to collect runoff from small areas (less than 1/4 acre).  These structures are effective at trapping sediment and other debris but do not remove metals or nutrients.  They must be cleaned out regularly.  Catch basins typically cost $1,000 to $1,500 each to install.  In areas where oil is present, like parking lots, oil/water separators should be used to remove the oil from the water.
