Oneida Lake Marina Sends ‘Mouse Boat’ and Pirate with Safety Message to State Fair

Syracuse, NY, August 26, 2014 - Pirate’s Cove and Marina and Resort on Oneida Lake at Clay, NY, has loaned a 10-foot, two-seater boat known as a water mouse and its pirate mascot to The Great Shipwrecks of NY’s ‘Great’ Lakes Signature Exhibit located in the mini-NY State Park at the 2014 Great New York State Fair.
 
The mini-boat is the educational vessel of the 2014 Discover Clean and Safe Boating campaign developed by New York Sea Grant. The multi-faceted Shipwrecks land and water exhibit includes a 60-foot tent, activities for children, and marine science underwater components in the reflecting pool at the 375-acre event.

Boat owner Patti White says, ‘I love that my little boat is at the Fair on a public service mission. We need to encourage every boater to be safety conscious in any size boat.’

18th Century Replica Bateau in Shipwrecks Exhibit at NY State Fair

The Lake Champlain Maritime Museum/LCMM, Vergennes, VT, has loaned its first replica 18th-century bateau to The Great Shipwrecks of NY’s ‘Great’ Lakes Signature Exhibit in the mini-NY State Park at the 2014 Great New York State Fair. The French and Indian War era-style boat, named the Perseverance, is part of the multi-faceted land and water exhibit that includes components in the reflecting pool at the NY State Park at the 375-acre event.

The replica, built in Vermont in 1986, includes lines from a shipwreck raised from Lake George in 1960.

Interpretive panels in the exhibit were developed by LCMM with fascinating details on shipwrecks in Lake George, the Finger Lakes, Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, and the St. Lawrence River.
 
The Great Shipwrecks of NY’s ‘Great’ Lakes Signature Exhibit, developed by New York Sea Grant and The Great New York State Fair in partnership with the LCMM, Great Lakes Seaway Trail, and many others, continues through Labor Day and includes daily demonstrations in the reflecting pool.
