Stony Brook, NY, July 24, 2024 - The New York Farm Bureau (NYFB) is in the spotlight in this webinar from New York Sea Grant (NYSG)'s Aquaculture Industry Resource Series.
"Without a statewide aquaculture association in place, the New York Farm Bureau is an ideal organization to support and lobby on behalf of the industry", says NYSG Aquaculture Specialist Barry Udelson
Kyle Wallach, NYFB's Associate Director of Public Policy, offered attendees an overview and short presentation on the bureau's policy development process "that really starts and and is fueled by our membership."
Thomas Denman, NYFB's Associate Director of Membership Development and Engagement, said "most of my job is spent supporting our members, supporting our field staff, supporting all of our staff and making sure that they have all the tools they need."
Lauren McGrath, a Long Island-based NYFB staff member who provides assistance as a field agent of sorts, said that all members are members of a county farm bureau, adding, "We are your liaison between the state farm bureau and your county farm bureau."
Robert Carpenter, Director of the Long Island Farm Bureau, highlighted a few examples of what he and his colleagues been able to accomplish and over the years. Discussing one of these examples, he said, "We don't always get everything that we want, but I think that without the advocacy of farm bureau at the table Robert Carpenter: the [Suffolk County Aquaculture lease] program would be much weaker than it is today."
