Wantagh, NY – On Thursday, July 22, 2021, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Nassau County (CCE Nassau), in conjunction with New York State Department of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation, New York Sea Grant and the Jones Beach Energy & Nature Center will be kicking off their 3rd Annual Marine Camp for underserved youth from Nassau County. 
 
This marine camp continues to build upon our commitment to create tangible “hands-on” marine science educational programs for Nassau County youth. 
 
The goals of the program are to get kids out into nature, to provide hands-on learning experiences and to deliver quality educational programming incorporating the diverse coastal marine life & environments which surrounds us on Long Island.  
 
Eight different community groups from Nassau County will be participating in this program during the summer months. The community group, My Brother’s Keeper from ABGS Middle School in Hempstead will be the first campers on opening day.  The “kick-off” press conference will begin promptly at the Jones Beach Energy & Nature Center tomorrow, Thursday, July 22, 2021 @ 10:30am.

The Marine Camp was launched in 2018 with the goal of introducing more youth from Nassau County to the incredibly diverse marine “living” on Long Island” says Gregory Sandor, Executive Director, CCE Nassau. “We are committed to providing dynamic learning opportunities and are thrilled to be hosting this event at the new Jones Beach Energy & Nature Center where youth can gain a world class education close to home in Nassau County.  We look forward to growing the program over the coming years and expanding upon our mission of providing quality interactive educational opportunities for our youth.”
