Geneva, NY, Jan 27, 2021 - It’s the end of January and an Arctic air mass is headed our way for the weekend.
The perfect time to think about boating.
As heard on Finger Lakes Radio, New York Sea Grant (NYSG) Coastal Recreation and Tourism Specialist Dave White reminds us this is normally the time for the big boat shows.

The time we have now as we continue the season of COVID is to be thinking about where we normally would be with boating at this time of year, which, going to boat shows, we start thinking about new product lines and start thinking about boat safety. We think about last summer and start thinking about the coming summer.
He says don’t despair because COVID has sunk the usual shows.

Don't sit home and be sad, like, oh, there's no boat show. Make your own. Take the family out. The boat dealers would love to have you come in, look at new product, sit down, you know, get a feel for what's out there. Stop at two or three dealers. Stop and pick up takeout lunch at one of your favorite local places and support our local businesses.
Brianna’s Law requires recreational boat operators to have a boating safety certificate. The law is being phased in based on operator age, with everyone required to have a certificate by 2025.

New York Sea Grant (NYSG), a cooperative program of Cornell University
and the State University of New York (SUNY), is one of 34 university-based
programs under the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s
National Sea Grant College Program.
