Syracuse, NY, January 30, 2013 - The centerpieces of the Boating Information Center at the Central New York Boat Show at the NYS Fairgrounds in Syracuse February 13-17, 2013, are the 2013 Discover Clean & Safe Boats. The 16-foot ‘made in New York’ Grumman fishing boat and Ontario II canoe are equipped with all the gear required and recommended for clean, safe, and legal boating on New York waters.

New York Sea Grant, the Boating Industries Association of Upstate New York (BIA), and Marathon Boat Group are sponsoring the 2013 Discover Clean & Safe Boating campaign focused on helping boaters, paddle sport enthusiasts, anglers, and sportsmen learn how to slow the spread of aquatic invasive species.

The announcement of the 2013 campaign was made at the BIA’s December meeting in Cicero, NY. BIA President Fran D’Agata, of Fremac Marine Sales and Services, Chittenango, NY, says, “The marina, marine manufacturer and marine services members of the Boating Industries Association are pleased to be part of the Discover Clean and Safe Boating campaign that makes the best practices available to the boating public and the boating industry.”

“This educational campaign engages diverse audiences throughout the Great Lakes region and across New York State with information on easy-to-implement clean and safe boating practices,” says campaign developer New York Sea Grant Coastal Recreation and Tourism Specialist Dave White. “Everyone who enjoys New York’s waters can take a role in slowing the spread of aquatic invasive species.”

Marathon Boat Group has provided the fishing boat for the 2013 campaign. The Marathon, NY, boat manufacturer has supported the Discover Clean & Safe Boating campaign since 2010. CEO John Jackson says, “Marathon Boat Group is pleased to partner with New York Sea Grant, the Central New York Boat Show, and the boating industry to share science-based information to protect New York’s great freshwater and marine boating resources.”

The boats join booths with all the latest information on boating safety, clean boating, maritime laws, aquatic invasive species, canal and open water destinations, and cross border boating to Canada at the Boating Information Center in the Exhibit Building.

The following organizations and agencies will have exhibits and materials available at the 2013 Central New York Boat Show Boating Information Center:
