Stony Brook, NY, September 5, 2012 - Anyone who lives, works or plays along New York's Great Lakes, Long Island, Hudson River or New York City shorelines can now sign up for Currents, a quarterly E-newsletter featuring updates issued by New York Sea Grant.

The new online resource – which recently debuted - highlights New York Sea Grant’s research, extension, education and information endeavors for New York’s Great Lakes and marine waters. The first issue includes items on Sea Grant’s hurricane and rip currents education, clean and safe boating initiative and unwanted medicines campaign as well as efforts to educate on a variety of invasive species, from Asian carp to aquatic plants such as Hydrilla and water chestnut. Feature stories also spotlight stewardship and restoration efforts, from eastern Lake Ontario to the Long Island Sound.

Subscribers have the option to download an entire issue or individual articles of interest. Each issue will also be archived at www.nyseagrant.org/ecurrents. Those interested can also opt-in at this Web site to receive future issues of Currents free of charge. A request can also be made to electronically receive New York Sea Grant’s quarterly flagship publication, New York Coastlines. Both New York Coastlines and Currents will each be E-distributed 3-4 times a year.

New York Sea Grant (NYSG), a cooperative program of Cornell University and the State University of New York is one of 32 university-based programs under the National Sea Grant College Program (NSGCP) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
