Automatic shutoff nozzles on fuel pump hoses can help prevent spills associated with overfilling tanks and should be considered when fueling equipment is being upgraded.  On gas nozzles without automatic shutoffs, collars of absorbent material can help minimize problems with overfill spills.  Use of drip pans when fueling portable tanks, as well as under hose fittings and connections, can help prevent fuel from leaking into the water.
