In some cases, existing facilities or structures built for other purposes can be utilized to provide the proper safe guards for liquid material storage.  For instance, this room with the raised sill shown here, was actually designed as a fire-proof room for paint storage.  However, because the raised sill serves as a berm and the room has impervious floors with no floor drains, it also meets requirements as a pollution control best management practice for the storage of hazardous materials.  Identifying multiple uses for existing facilities and incorporating simple features like this berm when designing new facilities or remodeling existing structures can save money while helping to protect the environment.
