Syracuse, NY, January 31, 2012 - The Boating Information Center in the Horticulture Building at the Central New York Boat Show February 15-19 is the spot to learn all you need to know about boating safely, legally, and in an environmentally-friendly way on NY waters.

The Center will host the 2012 Discover Clean and Safe Boating educational vessel — a 17-foot Com-Pac Sun Cat sailboat built by Hutchins Company of Clearwater, Florida, and provided by The Sailboat Shop in Skaneateles, NY.

The Sailboat Shop owner and past president of the Boating Industries Association of Upstate New York John Jablonski says, “I am pleased to provide a boat for use with this educational campaign. It is a great way to educate boaters of all interests and ages about how to enjoy New York’s fabulous water resources in a way that is safe, legal and keeps our waters clean.”

The made-in-New-York 12-foot aluminum canoe provided for last year’s show by Marathon Boat Group has been dubbed the E/V Ontario and will also be at the display.

Morgan Recreational Supply and Taylor Made Products have equipped the sailboat and canoe with the gear required and recommended for clean and safe boating on NY waters.

A representative of the new-in-2012 New York Sea Grant Aquatic Invasive Species Resource Educators and Watercraft Inspectors Program will be at the Boating Information Center to help boaters identify ways they can voluntarily help slow or prevent the spread of invasive species.

Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers information will also be available at the Boating Info Center made possible by New York Sea Grant, Boating Industries Association of Upstate New York, Syracuse Sail & Power Squadron, New York State Canal System, New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation, US Coast Guard Auxiliary, and US Department of Homeland Security.

Boating Industries Association of Upstate NY President Fran D’Agata of Fremac Marine in Bridgeport, says, “The Boating Information Center and the Discover Clean and Safe Boat are great attractions and excellent resources for both new and experienced boaters to learn how to boat responsibly, and the Boating Industries Association is very excited to be partnered with everyone involved in the project once again this year.”

In 2011, the BoatUS Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water awarded New York Sea Grant Coastal Recreation and Tourism Specialist Dave White and the Discover Clean & Safe Boating campaign a commendation. The campaign is collaboration by NYSG, the Boating Industries Association of Upstate New York, and other marine trade organizations, marine manufacturers, event organizers, and media.
