To New York Marina Owners/Operators
Hurricane Sandy has had a devastating impact on New York’s coastline. As you know, marina and recreational boating businesses have been particularly hard hit due to their location on the water. New Sea Grant, a university-based marine research, education and technical assistance program, is working with the marina industry to try to get a better assessment of the economic losses and damages suffered specifically by recreational boating facilities. It is hoped that this information can help identify critical needs of the industry and can be used to inform decision making regarding restoration efforts and the eventual distribution of recovery funds in the wake of Sandy.
Towards this end, we are asking marina owners and operators like you to fill out the enclosed questionnaire about the losses you have sustained. We do not expect you to provide detailed, documented information. Rather, we are asking that you provide your best estimate for the categories identified in the questionnaire.
The individual information you provide is confidential and will not be distributed. The resultant data will only be used in a summarized form to quantify losses to the marina industry as a whole and will not be traceable to any one facility.
Please fill out the enclosed form and return it in the postage paid return envelope. If you prefer you can fax the completed form to the New York Sea Grant Extension Program Office at 631.632.8216.
