How did the dunes form?
It
all started between 10,000 and 20,000 years ago when the Lake Ontario
area was covered with a mile-high sheet of ice or glacier. As this
glacier melted and receded north, it left a giant lake called Lake
Iroquois. This lake existed where Lake Ontario is today but was
much larger in size.
