Oswego, NY, April 11, 2011 - Starting Saturday, April 23, 2011, New York boaters will have the opportunity to “Discover Better Boating” on YNN (Your News Now) television. Once a month boating industry professionals will offer information and tips on such topics as preparing your boat for the boating season, boating safety, the impact of ethanol fuel on your boat, and getting better gas efficiency in a tight economy.
The television outreach, a partnership of New York Sea Grant with the Boating Industries Association of Upstate New York (BIA) and Your News Now, has evolved from the Discover Clean & Safe Boating campaign begun by New York Sea Grant and BIA in 2008.
YNN, based in Syracuse, NY, is one of thirteen 24-hour local news channels owned and operated by Time Warner Cable nationwide. The YNN channel based in Syracuse telecasts two separate program feeds, one to Central/Northern New York; one to the Southern Tier. Content is generated from seven regional newsrooms, along with the Syracuse headquarters.
YNN is available to nearly 600,000 cable subscribers across a 25-county, 15,000 square mile area.
New York Sea Grant Coastal Recreation and Tourism Specialist Dave White will introduce the monthly “Discover Better Boating” segments. White said, “We are pleased to have the broad public reach provided by Your News Now to help educate boaters about how to enjoy New York’s waters cleanly, safely and in an environmentally-friendly way.”
The Boating Industries Association of Upstate NY is an association of independent marine dealers, retailers and marine-related businesses located throughout Central NY. BIA President John Jablonski, owner of The Sailboat Shop in Skaneateles, NY, said, “The Boating Industries Association is pleased to help bring this new television initiative to the public because our member businesses are all about making boating more enjoyable on Central New York waterways.”
YNN News Director Ron Lombard said, “YNN takes its role in delivering timely and practical information to the public seriously. The Discover Better Boating segments will benefit from the expertise of New York Sea Grant as our science-based partner, and with the industry knowledge of the Boating Industries Association members.”
