December 1, 2010, Cicero, NY - New York Sea Grant, the Boating Industries Association of Upstate New York (BIA), and Marathon Boat Group will be announcing the 2011 edition of the Discover Clean & Safe Boating campaign at BIA’s Thursday, December 9th meeting at Borio’s Restaurant in Cicero, NY.

“We are excited about the new direction the Discover Clean & Safe Boating campaign is taking with a new style of vessel and a new ‘hot topic’ focus for 2011,” says campaign developer and New York Sea Grant Coastal Recreation and Tourism Specialist Dave White.

“The Boating Industries Association of Upstate New York is pleased to partner with this program because our member marinas and marine-related businesses are all about making boating safer and more enjoyable in ways that also protect the quality of our boating waters,” says BIA President John Jablonski, owner of The Sailboat Shop in Skaneateles, NY.

In 2010, Marathon Boat Group provided a 19-foot “made in New York” Grumman aluminum pontoon boat direct from the Marathon Boat Group assembly line at Marathon, NY, for the campaign. The boat was equipped with all the gear required and recommended for safe and legal boating on NY waters.

“The 2010 Discover Clean and Safe Boating Campaign was a new program for Marathon Boat Group. We are pleased to return in 2011 to help New Yorkers learn how to enjoy our fabulous boating waters by following good practices to protect themselves and the marine environment,” says Marathon Boat Group CEO John Jackson.

The 2010 “Discover Clean and Safe Boating” vessel traveled 2500-plus miles to events throughout New York State. More than 1400 New Yorkers signed the Clean and Safe Boating pledge at the exhibit.

For 2011, Marathon Boat Group will provide a new type of vessel that will fit the new campaign theme. The style of boat and theme will be announced at the December 9 meeting.

The first event for the new vessel will be the 2011 Central New York Boat Show at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse February 16-20.
