Ann, Arbor, Michigan, September 21, 2009 - In A "NOAA People" Spotlight featured on NOAA World, Doran Mason, a director and chief scientist at NOAA’s Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (GLERL) in Ann Arbor, Michigan, recounts his days as a New York Sea Grant scholar. Mason, who completed his thesis work under Stephen Brandt, a researcher at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, knew he was hooked on fisheries science after experiencing the lure of Great Lakes fisheries as a Sea Grant scholar in the 1980s.
“Being a New York Sea Grant scholar was invaluable to launching my science career,” says Mason. For more on Mason's studies as a scholar as well as his current job at GLERL, check out the NOAA World feature article (click here).
