Lake Ontario Shipboard Science For Educators
Great Lakes Coastal Youth Education - News

From July 13-19, 2008, 15 teachers and non-formal educators embarked on a learning experience of a lifetime. During this time, the group traveled from Buffalo, NY, through the Welland Canal, studying Lake Ontario during The Center for Ocean Sciences Education Excellence (COSEE) Great Lakes's summer Shipboard and Shoreline Science workshop.

New York Sea Grant's Great Lakes educator, Helen Domske, led the cruise aboard the USEPA's Peter Wise Lake Guardian that is designed to promote Great Lakes and ocean sciences and forge lasting relationships between science researchers and educators.

Participants were involved in field exercises, working along scientists collecting data, and exploring classroom activities relating to the Great Lakes and ocean resources.  Several other NYSG staff members assisted with presentations, publicity and land-based tours during the course.

We invite you to follow along with the educators by checking out the course "blog" that is featured on the COSEE GL website at http://coseegreatlakes.net.
